What does an AI consultant do?

An AI consultant finds the work in your business that AI can do, tells you honestly which jobs are worth automating, and helps you set them up and use them safely. Some consultants only advise. Westward also builds the thing, sets it up on your accounts, and trains your team.

They find the work that repeats

The first job is looking. A consultant watches how your team spends its week and lists the tasks done again and again: sorting email, writing similar documents, updating records, answering the same questions. That list, not a textbook, decides what happens next.

For example, a firm that writes a similar proposal every week, or an office where one person copies client details from email into a record by hand. Both repeat, and both follow a pattern.

They tell you what AI can and cannot do

AI is good at drafting, sorting, summarizing and checking. It is not good at decisions that need your judgment or a customer relationship. A consultant sorts each task into one of three groups: let AI do it, let AI draft it and a person approves, or leave it with a person.

They should also say when AI is the wrong tool. Sometimes a simple form or a better checklist does the job.

They set it up

This is where consultants differ. Some hand you a report. Others build the agent, dashboard or tool and put it on your accounts. An AI agent, in plain terms, is software that does a task for you, such as reading email and drafting replies, and stops to ask when something is unclear.

They train people and set rules

A tool nobody uses saves nothing. A good consultant teaches your team on their own work and writes down the rules: what the AI may do, what it must never touch, and who approves what.

Is an AI consultant the same as an IT company?

Not quite. An IT company keeps your computers and networks running. An AI consultant looks at your work and finds what AI can do in it. Some firms do both.

Will they replace my staff?

That is not what we do. Westward’s work is taking repeated tasks off people’s plates, with a person approving anything important or public.

How do I know a consultant is good?

Ask for the price in writing, who approves what the AI does, whose accounts it runs on, and whether they will tell you when AI will not help. Plain answers are a good sign.
