Why is my website not getting customers?

Answers · Websites

A website usually fails to bring in customers for one of four reasons: Google does not show it, the people who find it do not understand what you do, nothing tells them what to do next, or it works badly on a phone. Check them in that order, because the first decides whether anyone arrives at all. Westward offers a free 30-minute first call with the founder if you want a second pair of eyes.

Is your site in Google at all?

Search your business name. Then type site:yourdomain.com into Google to see which pages it has. Google’s free Search Console shows the pages it has, what people searched and the clicks you got.

New sites can take weeks to be picked up. On our own site, Google had 23 of 37 public pages on October 12, 2026, weeks after launch.

Does anyone actually visit?

Being in Google is not the same as being found. Our site appeared in 84 searches and got 8 clicks over the 28 days to October 12. Ranking well for your own name is easy. Ranking for what strangers type, such as “accountant in Venice”, is the hard part.

Do visitors understand and act?

The first screen should say what you do, where and for whom, with one clear next step, such as a call button or a booking link. Show it to a stranger for five seconds, then ask what you do.

Does it work on a phone?

Open your site on your own phone. Check that it loads in a few seconds, the text is readable and the buttons work. A contact form that fails quietly is easy to miss, so send yourself a test message and see if it arrives.

Getting help

You can do all of this free, and it is worth an afternoon before you pay anyone. If you want help, ask what they will measure and when they will show it to you.

Westward’s SEO agent works on the first two problems every day. The site updater watches how visitors use your site and makes at most two small, tested changes a night. A person approves anything public.

Questions

How long before a new website gets customers?

No one can say. First Google has to find the pages, then people have to search for what you do. Measure monthly.

Do I need ads?

Ads are one way to get visitors faster, and you pay for clicks. They won’t fix a page that confuses visitors, so check the basics first.

How do I know if people visit?

Use Google Search Console, which is free, and a simple analytics tool. Look at pages in Google, searches and clicks.

Can AI fix my website?

It can help with the daily work, and a person should approve anything public. It can’t fix a website that has nothing clear to say about your business.
