Google AI Mode is a way of searching Google in which an AI writes an answer to your question instead of only listing links. No one can guarantee you will appear in it, but in Westward’s own check on October 4, 2026, AI Mode answered local questions from Google Maps business profiles with reviews. So start with a complete, accurate Google Business Profile, real reviews and clear pages on your site.

What AI Mode is

It is an option inside Google Search where you ask in your own words, can ask follow-up questions and get a written answer with links. For a local business, the question might be “Who is a good electrician near Venice?”

What we saw

On October 4, 2026, we ran 11 customer-style questions across Google AI Mode and Perplexity. The local answers in AI Mode drew on Google Maps profiles with reviews. Westward was not named in any of the 11 answers.

That is one check with a small sample, and Google can change how AI Mode works. Treat it as a sign of where to look, not a rule.

Where we are still weak

Our own profile is verified and rated 5 stars, but as of October 12, 2026 it had one review. That is thin, and getting more is on our to-do list. If your profile has only a few reviews, the first job is to earn more honest ones.

What to do, in order

Work through the steps below. The first three take an afternoon. The reviews take longer, because they depend on your customers.

Claim and verify your Google Business Profile. It is free.
Fill in everything: your business name as customers know it, categories, hours, phone, website, services and photos.
If you travel to customers, set a service area. A service-area business does not have to show a street address.
Ask happy customers for reviews with a direct link, and reply to each one. Never buy or fake reviews.
Put a plain summary of what you do, where and for whom at the top of each service page on your site.
Keep your hours, phone number and description the same on your site and your profile.
Each month, ask AI Mode the questions your customers ask and save the answers.

Can I pay to appear in Google AI Mode?

Nobody can guarantee a place in an AI answer, and we would be wary of anyone who sells one.

Do I need a storefront?

No. A service-area business can have a profile without showing a street address. Westward’s profile is set up that way, covering the Los Angeles area and Orange County.

Does my website still matter?

Yes. AI answers can draw on web pages as well as profiles, and clear pages also help people and Google’s regular results.

How long until I show up?

No one can say. Check monthly and keep notes.
